North Wales businesses hailed as 'first class' by Parc Adfer construction team

The supply chain network across Flintshire and North Wales has been described as ‘first class’ by the team tasked with delivering the Parc Adfer energy recovery facility, following a successful Meet the Buyer event last week.

There were more than 250 registrations from businesses wanting to attend the supplier event, which was held over more than 12 hours at Coleg Cambria in Connah’s Quay last week.

Each delegate was invited to a series of one-to-one sessions with members of the construction team, enabling them to pitch their depth of experience and professional skills to developer Wheelabrator Technologies Inc., civil engineering contractor Sisk Group and Baumgarte Boiler Systems, who will be managing the delivery of the mechanical and electrical packages on the project.

Around two thirds of the businesses who attended were based in Flintshire or the wider North Wales region with the skills, goods and services on offer ranging from roofers, plumbers, electricians and engineers to plant hire, landscapers, logistics firms and equipment manufacturers.

Mark Walsh, Senior Construction Manager at Wheelabrator, said: “We were extremely pleased with both the number of businesses who came to see us and the quality of the goods and services those businesses can offer to the Parc Adfer project. The sheer quantity of first class businesses located within just a few miles of the Parc Adfer site is extremely encouraging, not to mention those across the broader North Wales region. I expect to see strong bids coming in from many of those businesses when we start tendering the work packages. On behalf of the project’s construction team I’d like to thank each delegate who attended. We’re also very grateful to Coleg Cambria for letting us host the event on their premises.”

Parc Adfer will unlock supply chain opportunities worth in the region of £14 million during the three year construction period, with a further £30 million being invested to support the facility’s day-to-day operations over its 25 year lifetime.

Businesses that weren’t able to attend the Meet the Buyer event but would still like to register their interest in the project should email
