Community Engagement

Committed to the Community

Wheelabrator is committed to being an actively engaged community partner in the communities in which we do business. We maintain strong working relationships with our host communities and surrounding areas.

As a long-term neighbor and partner, Wheelabrator facilities serve as the catalyst for development and growth, creating or enhancing the infrastructure to attract new industry, and investing significantly in our communities.

Wheelabrator facilities play an active role in local communities supporting and investing in civic and charitable organizations, local schools and environmental causes, while contributing to increased growth and enhanced quality of life. Click here to see how our plants work.

As a community partner, we believe our social responsibility begins with the communities in which our employees live and work, and grows from there.

Environmental Community

Wheelabrator is an ongoing member and strong supporter of local Audubon programs and local environmental organizations specific to its host communities. Three of our facilities are certified as Wildlife at Work sites through the Wildlife Habitat Council, two of which are also certified as Corporate Lands for Learning sites.

Civic Community

Our employees are empowered to volunteer in community activities, which allows Wheelabrator to foster positive local relationships. Such activities include sponsoring wildlife sanctuaries, public parks, senior citizen centers, and local schools, all of which help educate and engage local residents and protect our environment.

Charitable Community

Wheelabrator supports charitable organizations local to our host communities, such as the American Red Cross, the United Way, local literacy centers, homeless centers and children's charitable organizations.

Educational Community

Wheelabrator understands the importance of investing in future generations both as mentors and as benefactors. We attend and support school events and also make contributions to local education organizations. We also work with local schools to educate students on proper waste disposal, recycling and related environmental issues.
