Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 (FM2)
In October 2015, the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Amber Rudd MP, awarded planning consent (known as a Development Consent Order) to FM2. This milestone was the culmination of significant consultation and engagement with local residents, community organisations, elected representatives and government agencies. In November 2015, FM2 was granted an Environmental Permit by the Environment Agency.
The FM2 project represents a further £300 million investment by Multifuel Energy Ltd (MEL) - a 50:50 joint venture between Wheelabrator and SSE plc. It is expected to bring similar employment and local economic benefits to those generated by the construction of its sister facility Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1), including:
• In excess of 500 construction jobs;
• Over 40 new full time operational jobs;
• A boost to the local economy through supply opportunities worth at least £10 million over the three year construction phase.
