Wheelabrator Dutchess County

Wheelabrator Dutchess County

The Poughkeepsie, New York, waste-to-energy facility provides environmentally safe and dependable disposal of everyday household and business waste for 290,000 residents of Dutchess County.

By turning 465 tons of post-recycled waste per day into 9 MW of electricity — enough clean energy to power approximately 8,220 homes as well as its own operations — Wheelabrator Dutchess County creates a local-energy ecosystem that turns waste materials into a local fuel to produce clean, renewable electricity for sale to the local utility, while recovering metals for recycling.

We offer an environmentally friendly waste disposal option and reduce dependence on landfills.

“Wheelabrator is an industry leader with nearly four decades of experience in converting everyday household and commercial waste into clean, renewable energy for nearby communities.”
- Bill Calogero, Executive Director, Dutchess County Resource Recovery Authority
